Information on the battery law

Battery deposit and disposal

batterieentsorgung

Starter batteries contain lead and must therefore not be disposed of with household waste. For this purpose, they are marked with the symbol of a crossed-out dustbin with the chemical symbol of the heavy metal (Pb=lead) that is decisive for the classification as containing harmful substances. End users are obliged under the Battery Act to return used starter batteries to the seller of the battery or to a municipal collection point!

Collection and reimbursement of the deposit value

We, OTR-Performance GmbH and all other distributors of starter batteries are legally obliged to charge a deposit of EUR 7.50 to the end consumer who purchases a starter battery in accordance with the Battery Act §10 (current version of 26.11.2015). Our battery prices therefore include this deposit, which we show on the sales invoice.

If the deposit is not automatically addedhere in the shoping basket, it should be purchased under the article number ABPF-LI, as this is the only way to ensure a refund of the deposit at a later date.

Due to the Ordinance on Hazardous Goods, it is not possible to return the old (lithium) battery in the shipping department (products containing harmful substances and possibly damaged may not be sent as standard parcels). For this reason, we offer the end consumer two options for refunding the deposit value:

  • If a used starter battery is returned and the deposit invoice (sales invoice) is presented in our shop - OTR-Performance GmbH, Hugo-Junkers-Str. 52-54, 50739 Cologne, the deposit will be refunded as soon as possible (1-2 working days) via the payment method selected at the time of purchase. A cash refund is not possible.

  • Alternatively, the end user can also return the used battery to a municipal collection point, stamp the invoice there or have a return receipt issued and send it to us by post. In both cases, we will refund the deposit to your bank or PayPal account, depending on the original payment. If you pay the invoice in advance, please state the bank details.

Please note that the disposal receipt submitted must not be older than 14 days in order to apply for reimbursement.

According to the law, only the return of used batteries that are also placed on the market by the seller is obligatory. We therefore only take back lithium motorbike batteries.
